The original Coral Reefer Band, Marvin Gardens, Kay Pasa, Al Vacado and Kitty Litter! Dey is gonna be playin’ you da sweet vibes all night long!
The Coral Reefer Band are, of course the legend, singer, songwriter and guitarist Jimmy Buffet, keyboardist “Mr. Utley” Michael Utley, on da steely drums Robert Greenidge, guitarist and singer, strait outa’ Tamilnadu, India, Peter Mayer, bass guitarist “Uncle” Jim Mayer, drummer Roger Guth, the two-time reigning CMA Musician of the Year, guitarist and singer Mac McAnally, da steel peddler Doyle Grisham, the tootin’ trumpeter John Lovell, de dark percussionist Eric Darken, the oh, so, lovely duo of loveliness, singers Tina Gullickson and Nadirah Shakoor and finally, in memory of percussionist Ralph MacDonald. Together they are the band that shaped the tunes, brought out the chill melodies and made the lifestyle into the real thing.
“It was more about the celebration of a lifestyle – one built around booze in the blender, beaches and boats, where it's 5 o'clock somewhere and the Parrotheads have come to spend a couple hours getting lost in the fantasy Buffett has been serving with a smile.
His biggest hit may be more of a cautionary tale about a beach bum who knows it's his own damn fault that he's wasted away again on "that frozen concoction that helps me hang on."
But the bittersweet essence of those lyrics is lost in translation in concert, where that song is rendered one more carefree cause for celebration, Buffett encouraging fans at Talking Stick Resort Arena to shout the world "salt" at the end of each reference to not being able to locate his shaker of salt.” – Ed Masley, The Republic | azcentral.com
