Deemed by most country fans as the modern merge between Dolly Parton and Lee Ann Womack, Lainey Wilson is an award-winning country music rising star from Nashville. She was recently awarded the "New Artist of the Year" by the Country Music Association in 2022. Her music is quickly pulling up the charts, looking very promising for the Southern music artist.
She was born in Baskin, Louisiana, and listened to country music most of her life. Her father encouraged her to learn the guitar, and by eleven started composing her own songs. Her music was highly influenced by Buck Owens and Glen Campbell. She got a job impersonating Hannah Montana in high school because one of her teachers encouraged her to. She played and impersonated the Miley Cyrus character across states and was able to open her acts with her original compositions. In 2016, she released an album called, "Tougher" which quickly rose to number 44 on the Country Albums chart. The album, released in 2018, was able to capture wider audiences and new fans, making way for her second self-titled EP, which featured six original songs from the artist.
In 2020, her songs were featured on America's biggest TV show Yellowstone like "Small Town Girl" and "Smell Like Smoke." By 2021, she released the hit single "Things a Man Oughta Know," reaching number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and number three on the Country Songs chart. Just this year, Wilson collaborated with country hit artist Hardy for their breakthrough song "Wait In The Truck," nominated for Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year in 2023. And more upcoming exciting news for the artist because the release of the 5th season of Yellowstone features her character Abby, a role said to be made especially for her.
Wilson is starting her acting career, playing at the 2023 CMT music awards, and is now the most nominated artist there! Meet the emerging artist as she plays at the Red Rocks Amphitheater this September 26 along with country and Americana band Flatland Cavalry and country singer Jake Worthington.
