About Kevin Gates:
Kevin Gates is an American rapper, singer, and entrepreneur. Right now, he is signed with Bread Winners' Association, in partnership with Atlantic Records. His debut studio album, Islah, dropped in January 2016 and straight-up slayed. The album peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. Way before Islah dropped, he was already crushin' the game with some popular mixtapes like Stranger Than Fiction (2013), By Any Means (2014), and Luca Brasi 2 (2014).
Gates' journey began in 2007 when he signed with a local label, Dead Game Records. Alongside his Baton Rouge homies Boosie Badazz and Webbie, Gates dropped his first mixtape, Pick of Da Litter, in '07. Then came All or Nuthin' in '08, packed with what Gates calls "a lot of pain...a lot of true stories."
He’s known for spitting "confessional anthems," blending his real-life stories with fire Southern beats. Consequence of Sound pointed out in their review of Islah that his “autobiography and honesty have always been central to [Gates'] artistry.". Lately, he's been adding more singing to his game, thanks to training with, Monica - another well-known artist. His lyrics hit hard, he touches on stuff like depression, the struggle, and time behind bars.
