This summer, Alaskan indie rock outfit Portugal. The Man will make their way towards the mainland for a brief outing! Portugal. The Man is a prolific indie rock band hailing from Wasilla, Alaska. The six-member outfit emerged in 2004 and signed with Fearless Records at the beginning of their career. With the label, they released two studio albums, Waiter: “You Vultures!” and Church Mouth. In 2008, they began working with Equal Vision and released their third album, Censored Colors. Their first few efforts were met with critical acclaim. But it wasn’t until 2009 that they made their major breakthrough. The band released their fourth album, The Satanic Satanist, in 2009. The album spawned their first chart-performing hit single, “People Say,” which entered the Billboard 200 and Top Rock Albums charts.
In 2013, the band rose to international prominence with their seventh album, Evil Friends. The record, released through Atlantic, entered the chart in five countries, including three US Billboard charts. Moreover, Evil Friends marked the band’s first album to enter the top 10, peaking at number 9 on the Top Alternative Albums. Portugal. The Man’s work with Evil Friends, mainly the single “Modern Jesus,” has led to several accolades, including a UK Music Video Award nomination. Their single, “Endangered Song,” won the band their first Clio Music Award the following year.
In 2017, the band released their career-defining album, Woodstock. The critically acclaimed album became the band’s highest-charting effort, peaking at number 3 on Billboard’s Top Alternative and Top Rock charts. The album’s lead single, “Feel It Still,” won multiple awards, including a Grammy Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, and a Bronze Lion from the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
