This American rock duo comprising of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. The band began as an independent act where they were recording music in their basement and self-producing their own records with Dan on guitar and vocals and Patrick on drums. They eventually went on to emerge as one of the most popular garage rock bands during a second wave of the genres revival.

They formed this group after dropping out of college and they signed with indie label alive and then went on to release their debut album “The Big Come up” in 2002, this earned them a new record deal with a new record label. Over the next decade or so they built an insane underground fan base by going around and touring a bunch of small clubs, releasing albums on a frequent basis, appearing at music festivals and broadly licensing their songs.

Their third album, “Rubber Factory” which was released in 2004 went on to receive critical acclaim and in turn boosted the band's profile, gaining them thousands upon thousands of followers. The band's real breakthrough came in 2010 with their album “Brothers” which along with its popular single “Tighten up” won 3 Grammy Awards. This breakthrough caused them to jump from thousands of followers to hundreds upon millions of followers.

Their follow-up album “El Camino” was released in 2011 and received critical acclaim, peaking at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, this led to their first arena concert tour of their career. In 2014 they released their eighth album “Turn Blue” which became their first number one record. They then went on to have a break and re-emerged in the industry in 2019.

2022 saw them release their 11th album “Dropout Boogie”. In 2024 The Black Keys released their single “beautiful people (stay high)” which was taken from the 12th album “Ohio Players”. This album was well received with review saying that they “found their creative musical joy again”.
