Wilco’s recently released studio album, Cruel Country, received stellar reviews and praise from fans and critics. The 2022 studio effort features the singles “Falling Apart (Right Now)” and “Tired of Talking It Out On You.” Compared to the band’s earlier works, Cruel Country leaned more on Wilco’s country music side. The 12th studio album shied away from the band’s signature eclectic rock sound. “I think there's been an assumption over the years that Wilco is some sort of country band. There's a lot of evidence to support that way of thinking about our band because there have been elements of country music in everything we've ever done. But to be honest, we've never been particularly comfortable with accepting that definition of the music we make. With this album, though, I'll tell you what, Wilco is digging in and calling it country,” frontman Jeff Tweedy explained in a press release.
Wilco’s other notable releases include their 1996 album, Being There. The sophomore studio release served as the band’s breakthrough album when it entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 73. In 2013, the band saw itself moving up the mainstream charts when their fourth studio album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200. The record sold more than 600,000 copies, earning a gold certification in the U.S. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot spawned the hit “…Jesus, Etc” and “Heavy Metal Drummer.”
Wilco released their highest charting studio effort, Sky Blue Sky, in 2007. The album debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200, number 2 on the Top Rock Albums, and number 1 on the Top Tastemakers Albums chart. Two years later, the band received a Grammy Award nomination for their seventh studio album, Wilco (The Album).
